Wednesday 22nd February saw the very successful launch of the ‘Bramble Brae Bakes’ project at the school. The project is the result of a Health Improvement Fund bid which focused on healthy eating, home cooking and inter-generational working and is being managed by Chris Dunhill with the support of the Head Teacher at Bramble Brae.
The launch event was supported by CFINE (FareShare Grampian), Sodexo, Tesco, TAMS (The Allotment Market Stall), John Lewis, ALDI, Hallmark Hotels and Bramble Brae’s Primary 7 pupils and gardening group. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating as well as the financial savings that can be made through preparing food rather than buying processed or pre-packaged items. It also allowed parents to find out more about the cookery project that will be begin on Wednesday 15th March.
There was an excellent response to the project and the school now has enough families signed up to take part in the weekly sessions. These will focus on parents/carers preparing and cooking meals along with their children then enjoying the social aspect of eating the meal together as a group when ready. At the end of the project the group will create their own recipe book which will then be sold to the school community.
